multiple copies of Sourceforge feed posts

Postby cpminga on Wed Aug 13, 2003 4:57 pm

I only have this problem with Sourceforge.net feeds and only the ones with the following url type...

http://sourceforge.net/export/rss2_proj ... oup_id=235
(Gaim Project file releases)

however, these do not duplicate...

http://sourceforge.net/export/rss2_proj ... p_id=62270
(PHPiCalendar Project news releases)

in other words, all my SF "FILE release feeds" duplicate, none of the "NEWS Release" do.

nntp//rss will pull the very same posts daily resulting in duplicates in my mail.

I took a quick look at the file releases feed - it seems like the posts are changing daily, albeit very subtlely. The file releases feed contains the current number of downloads for each file. I believe SourceForge updates this on a daily basis. When nntp//rss polls the feed, it notices that there is the difference between the previous and current contents, and synchronizes across a new copy of the item.

For a feed like this one, you should turn off archiving. This will stop nntp//rss from keeping multiple copies of the similar items, and will only keep the current feed items within its database.

Thanks for the tip, Jason. I'll try to use the "news releases" feeds for the projects I monitor whenever possible.
