Old message deletion.

Postby trelony on Sun Aug 10, 2003 4:04 am

I think it is useful to keep messages on a server, but after some time I still want the messages to be delete. I think it would be a useful feature to delete messages older than some period.

Yes - I agree. I'm actually working on this at the moment. Instead of historical being a true/false, there's actually going to be a range of archival options, e.g.

- Keep items forever,
- Archive for 3 months
- Archive for 1 months
- Archive for 2 weeks
- Archive for 1 week
- Do not archive (i.e. only keep items currently within the feed)

This will be part of the 0.4 release.

Postby joshwa on Sat Aug 30, 2003 11:32 pm

is there a way to manually purge the database of older articles? my installation's memory footprint is hovering around 65Mb.

Josh,

You may want to check out the following article re: adjusting the memory usage of nntp//rss:

http://www.methodize.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5

In the next few days I'll prepare a short HOWTO on manually purging old articles.

Hi, Jason,

Yeah, I tried that-- the safest I could lower it without it dragging performance was just 13. Cut mem usage in 1/2, but I really have no need to keep those older articles and I'll be happy when you come out with that HOWTO.

Thanks!
